To start this off you may be wondering where the name 'Trainer Meaghan' or the commonly shortened T-Meg or TM evolved from. Maybe you haven't wondered about this yet, so let me enlighten everyone.
The title of Athletic Trainer is one of those things that ATs are constantly correcting people about. We are not personal trainers, we are not just 'Trainers' we are so much more. When I started as the new athletic trainer at Sage Hill School I went in with the plan that everyone would know me as an athletic trainer. The whole title, not just part of it. My plan worked perfectly.... until about 30 minutes into my first practice.
As I was taking inventory of the supplies I had to work with, a scrawny kid, with a bit of a squeaky voice came running into the Athletic Training Room. He obviously needed something and hurriedly asked me "Hey are you Trainer Meaghan?" I remember laughing and replying with, "Well, I am your new Athletic Trainer, and my name is Meaghan so I guess I'm the person you're looking for."
From that moment on, the nickname just stuck. A former athlete I worked with once told me that nicknames are not picked they are earned and most often, its out of affection. So thank you Eric Cheng c/o '12, to this day people rarely know my last name at Sage Hill, and Trainer Meaghan has taken on a virtual life of her own. You can often see comments, scores, and updates on twitter (@TrainerMeaghan), Facebook (www.facebook.com/athletictrainermeaghan), and now here on a blog.
Before starting this blog I asked my community for input on what they would like for me to post on. Thankfully I received several responses and will do my best to answer all of your questions. I also hope to be able to post scores of big games, updates on issues that my athletes commonly face, and of course some great pictures because I am so fortunate to work in such a beautiful location!
